The Oklahoma Task Force on Minority Aging is a union of individuals and representatives of organizations across Oklahoma dedicated to the effective delivery of services to minority elders through advocacy, education, and support.

History

The task force was founded in 1983 when Betsy Davis Smith met with the Oklahoma Indian Council on Aging and Aging Services Division to discuss the needs of minority elders in Oklahoma. Together, the two organizations identified the need to train staff across the state, focusing on issues of minority aging. The identification of this need set the course for what has become the Oklahoma Task Force on Minority Aging. The task force strives to promote cultural competency by maintaining a community presence both locally and statewide, being active in local communities, and acting as a clearinghouse for information focusing on the needs of the minority elderly.
